There are a great number of different pineapple drinks. Some drinks contain alcohol, while others are non-alcoholic. In addition to pineapple juice, many pineapple drinks contain other types of juice, such as orange juice, as well as soda or ingredients such as grenadine. Pineapple drinks can be served over ice or frozen.
The pina colada is a common pineapple cocktail. Pina coladas are usually blended drinks served frozen, though some may be shaken in a cocktail shaker instead. The primary ingredients are pineapple juice or pieces of pineapple, coconut cream, and rum. A non-alcoholic version of the pina colada is known as the coco colada. The coco colada simply consists of pineapple juice and coconut cream blended with ice.
Other non-alcoholic pineapple drinks include the Cinderella, a virgin version of planter's punch, and a virgin Miami vice. In the planter's punch, pineapple juice is combined with orange juice, grenadine, and lemon juice. Club soda is also poured into the drink. The fruit juices in a virgin planter's punch replace the rum found in the alcoholic version. The drink is typically garnished with slices of orange and pineapple as well as maraschino cherries.
The Cinderella pineapple drink combines one part pineapple juice, one part orange juice, and one part lemon juice with two parts club soda and a small amount of grenadine. Cinderellas should be poured over ice and shaken. Ideally, the drink is served in a tall, straight glass with a garnish of orange or pineapple.
The Miami vice cocktail can be made virgin or with rum. It is basically a strawberry daiquiri poured over top of a pina colada or a coco colada in a glass. Both components of the drink should be frozen to create the layered look.
In a Miami vice cocktail, the pina colada portion should consist of coconut cream blended with pineapple chunks and ice. If the drink is to be alcoholic, it should have 2 ounces of rum as well. For the daiquiri portion of the drink, lime juice and strawberries should be blended with ice along with rum if a person wants to create an alcoholic drink. The drink can be served in a cocktail or hurricane glass.
Other pineapple drinks include a range of classic cocktails, such as the Algonquin. The Algonquin is made up of one part pineapple juice, one part vermouth, and two parts rye whiskey. Unlike other cocktails, the Algonquin needs to be stirred with ice, not shaken, then strained into a cocktail glass.
